Edinburgh slump to ninth defeat in a row

-

Candid Duncan Hodge admitted his mis-firing Gunners were bullied into submission by the Pro12 basement boys.

The capital strugglers hit a new low as they hurtled to a ninth successive loss.

And again caretaker coach Hodge confessed they were a poor second in Italy when it came to brain as well as brawn.

“Treviso are not a bad side, as they proved a couple of weeks back when they beat the Ospreys – but this was our doing,” he said.

“We allowed them to dominate us for large parts of the match.

“They won the big collisions, we couldn’t get them down and that meant we didn’t get the supply of quick ball that we wanted. It’s hard when you are losing the battle of the set piece, and the conditions made things even more difficult.

“We are on a really bad run and it was another damaging experience.”

Edinburgh must now try to salvage some pride from a disastrous season.

They square up to the improving Dragons at Myreside a week on Friday before gearing up for the campaign finale – the 1872 Cup showdown with Glasgow at Scotstoun.

Gunners had broken the deadlock at Stadio Monigo with a Jason Tovey penalty.

But from then onwards, apart from another Tovey strike, it was all about Treviso.

They bagged tries through Robert Barberi and Edoardo Gori, while Ian McKinley slotted a series of pinpoint kicks.

The final scoreline could have been even more cruel to Hodge and Co, with the hosts having two late efforts chalked off by the video ref in the closing minutes.
