Police action drives down antisocial behaviour in park

-

A police blitz on antisocial behaviour in a Kirkcaldy park has been hailed a success.

Officers were deployed in Ravenscraig Park over the weekend following concerns about drinking and drug taking among teenagers.

Groups of up to 50 youths from across Fife had gathered there the previous weekend and three ended up in hospital after taking an LSD-type drug.

The result of the police action over the Easter weekend was far fewer youths in the park, with officers seizing alcohol from those who were there, encouraging good behaviour and intervening before any gathering caused issues.

Sergeant Jimmy Adamson of Kirkcaldy community policing team said: “I am pleased to report back that due to the advance deployment of officers in the park on foot and bicycles, there was a significant reduction in youth antisocial behaviour.

“Officers were praised by dog walkers and other park users and I would like to thank the public for their support.”

He added: “We are determined to tackle antisocial behaviour in Ravenscraig Park and any other public spaces in Kirkcaldy.

“The public can be assured that we will not be complacent.”

Mr Adamson said officers had worked closely with the Clued Up project, which gives information on substances and support to young people.

“The youngsters themselves engaged well with them and were provided with support and information on the dangers and risks of alcohol consumption,” he said.

Anyone with any information about antisocial behaviour is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
