Hundreds of pedigree cattle in Stirling sale

-

More than 300 pedigree bulls and females will be on offer at United Auctions’ sale at Stirling Agricultural Centre next month.

The event has been extended to three days this year and will run from Saturday April 29 to May 1.

Bull inspections begin on the Saturday and the judging of Charolais, Simmental, Limousin, Salers and Highland cattle will take place on the Sunday.

Aberdeen-Angus and Beef Shorthorn bulls will be judged on Monday before the sales of all nine breeds kick off at 10.30am.

The company says the boost in entries is due to a record number of pedigree Limousin bulls (75) and Aberdeen-Angus bulls (59) forward this year with Salers entries nearly doubled to 13.

United Auctions Group sales director John Roberts said the May sale had grown steadily year-on-year from its launch with only 40 cattle.

West coast auctioneer Raymond Kennedy will lead the Highland sale.

United Auctions is also holding a commercial show and sale of Simmental breeding cattle on Monday May 1. It will take place in the sheep ring. The judges are: Aberdeen-Angus – Caroline Orr, Halbeath Farm, Dunfermline; Highland – Bob McWalter, Corpach, Fort William; Salers – Terry Coghill, Birsay, Kirkwall; Charolais – Ellis Mutch, Burnside of Whitefield, Banff; Simmental – Andrew W Clarke, Tynan, Co Armagh; Limousin – Michael Norman, Little Orton Farm, Carlisle; Beef Shorthorn – Victor Watson, Balliefurth Farm, Grantown on Spey.
