Incredible fishing at Lake of Menteith

In the Sierra Pairs Open at LAKE OF MENTEITH, 16 boats landed 121 fish for 286lb and returned an estimated 80 fish.

The fishing has been incredible, with so many top quality fish coming to the scales.

Best fish of the day, which tipped the scales round to 7lb 4oz, was taken late on in the match by Lee Lindope, who will now be able to fish the picturesqu­e Golden Grove Fishery.

The winning pair of Harris Campbell and Brian Carnegie had a bag of eight fish for nearly 25lb. Their fish were taken close in to the bank near the Butts.

Congratula­tions to the other three boats that qualified for the grand final at Llyn Brenig in August.

Evening fishing starts on Monday May 1 at the lake.

The Menteith Wednesday boat league starts at 6pm on Wednesday May 3. Single anglers should register by contacting Douglas on 0775212848­9 or turn up on the night.

More than £2,000 of prizes will be on offer.

RESCOBIE LOCH has been going really well in the past two weeks. The good weather and water visibility are helping anglers record excellent catches and fish are reported to be rising all over the loch.

April fish of the month leader is C Pyke with a brown trout of 6lb 4oz.

It was landed at the RLDA’s competitio­n on April 8, with a total catch of 75 fish for 200lb, including four brown trout for 14lb.

First on the day was Gordon Armstrong with a total of four kept and four released for 21lb 5oz.

Second was Bob Henderson with a total of four kept and four returned for 19lb 8oz.

Clubs enjoying the excellent fishing have been Perth Ex Service, nine for 24lb 12oz, Newtyle and Meigle AC 12 for 27lb 3oz, Kingfisher AC 15 for 47lb, ABCD 32 for 72lb, Perth CSSA 27 for 66lb 11oz, Dundee AC 27 for 65lb and Dundee West End 30 for 65lb.

The excellent fishing has led to many anglers catching the four fish limit. The best of them were Gordon Armstrong, four for 13lb, John Henderson four for 12lb, Bob Buick four for 12lb, Ian McMaster four for 12lb, R Smith four for 11lb 8oz, A Kennedy four for 11lb 8oz, DM Smith four for 11lb, A Munro four for 11lb, P Greig four for 11lb, I Strachan four for 11lb and A Fyall four for 11lb.

Alexanders FFC had a good day at ORCHILL LOCH, taking 37 fish for 109lb with R McCann having the heaviest basket with four fish for 24lb 4oz, his best at 6lb.

Allan Mitchell, Stirling, had three fish for 13lb, the best 7lb on a yellow owl, R Sinclair, Cowdenbeat­h, three for 9lb on a damsel, Robbie Scotland, Stirling, had three for 10lb 8oz on a blob and Harry Isherwood, Cumbernaul­d, took a brace for 6lb 8oz on an Ally McCoist.

John Stevenson, Bannockbur­n, had three for 9lb on buzzers, Andy Templeman, Blair Atholl, three for 10lb on a black fritz, I Troke, Tranent, four for 12lb 4oz on a damsel, Jim Coghlan, Auchterard­er, three for 8lb on a cut throat cat and Bill Dawson, Dollar, three for 9lb on a plumber buzzer.

It has been another great week at LEDYATT LOCH.

Fish were showing everywhere and happily feeding from the top.

Scott Anderson was chuffed with a 13lb 2oz rainbow and Bobby Burns, Perth, was equally happy with an 8lb 12oz rainbow.

NEWTON FARM FISHERY has seen another superb week.

The weather was rough at times but this did not put the fish off.

Riverside AC weighed in 21 fish for 55lb returning seven, for six rods.

Top rods were Craig McIntosh with 19 up to 8lb and Nigel Barnes with 14.
