Gers’ early goal burst sinks Dundee

-

Three goals in seven first-half minutes put Rangers in control of yesterday’s game at Links Park against a Dundee team that featured Kosta Gadzhalov, Nick Ross and Henrik Ojamaa.

The Gers took the lead after nine minutes. Ross Lyon pounced on Fraser Kemp’s under-hit back pass and he curled the ball past the outrushing Calum Ferrie.

The Dee fell further behind four minutes later when Lyon’s low corner was swept home by Andy Dallas.

Rangers added a third in controversial circumstances after 16 minutes. Liam Burt looked to go down inside the area with little contact from Ferrie, but the referee pointed to the spot and Jamie Barjonas scored the penalty.

Dundee’s best chance came after 26 minutes, when Mark Smith’s shot was saved by Robby McCrorie.

Rangers added a fourth seven minutes after the restart, Serge Atalayi creating space to drill in a fierce shot.

Ferrie made fine saves to deny Dallas and Burt but, with 71 minutes gone, Rangers did add a fifth. Kyle Bradley got on the end of Josh Jeffries’ corner and managed to squeeze his header past Josh Mulligan and Ferrie.

Neither side created a clear-cut chance in the time remaining as Rangers ran out comfortable winners.

Dundee: Ferrie, Dryden, Gadzhalov, Smyth, Quigley, Ross, Robertson, Kemp (Mulligan 45), Ojamaa (Cameron 56), M Smith (Anderson 45).
