Pitscottie is open for business during roadworks, says MP

-

Pitscottie businesses are reminding customers they are open as usual during local roadworks.

North East Fife MP Stephen Gethins called on Fife Council to install signs advising motorists that businesses in the village are open despite the upheaval on the Strathkinness Low Road, which is expected to take four weeks.

But the local authority refused, stating that Pitscottie was not affected by the resulting road closure.

Mr Gethins said businesses in the village had been affected by previous disruption caused by roadworks.

However, he said the council’s transportation department had told him that Pitscottie was not within the diversion area and would therefore not be included in any arrangements for the current project.

“Businesses in Pitscottie deserve the council’s support, especially following other recent road closures,” he said.

“These businesses are dependent on passing trade and highlighting that they are still open, especially as we are still in a holiday period, is very important. We have great local businesses and everything must be done to support them.”

The council maintained it had made efforts to help local businesses during previous roadworks.

Mark Dewar, council service manager for design and construction, said: “Pitscottie is not part of the diversion route or within the closure area for the current roadworks on Strathkinness Low Road and vehicles can still pass and use the local businesses.

“During the earlier roadworks that affected Pitscottie, we did all we could to aid the local businesses during any disruption.”
