Former Tangerines striker tips old side for promotion

-

Nadir Ciftci last night backed old club Dundee United to dump Dundee – if they go head-to-head in a play-off showdown.

Ciftci still has a soft spot for the Tangerines having starred for them from 2013-2015 so would love to see them regain Premiership status following the pain of relegation last season at Dens Park.

Ray McKinnon’s men have already secured their place in the play-offs and could face city rivals Dundee unless the Dark Blues haul themselves clear of the second-bottom slot with five post-split fixtures remaining.

Ciftci, who is on loan at Polish outfit Pogon Szczecin from Celtic, believes it could be the turn of United to have the last laugh on their old foes this time round.

Ciftci said : “Everyone remembers what happened nearly a year ago when Dundee relegated my old club.

“That was painful for United but there could be an interesting scenario in the next few weeks.

“United are looking quite good again and I’ve been hearing a lot of positive things, while Dundee have been going through a hard time.

“If it comes down to a play-off final between the two, I would be confident in my former club.

“There wouldn’t be as much pressure on them and the incentive to get back up will obviously be there. That is their goal.

“We’ll wait and see but I’ve got a feeling United will win promotion.”
