Victim’s pervert warning to teens

CRIME: Woman indecently assaulted thinks children at risk

- CHERYL PEEBLES

A woman who was indecently assaulted in a Dunfermline park fears her assailant was scouting for child victims.

She was touched up by one of two men believed to be operating together as she sat alone on a bench in Pittencrieff Park on Sunday. The victim is 24 but thinks the man thought she was much younger and is warning girls in their early teens to beware.

Police are hunting the assailant and a second man the woman believes followed her as she fled the scene at around 1.10pm.

The victim was unhurt but distressed by the incident, which occurred as the park was busy with families and dog walkers.

A woman indecently assaulted in a Fife park during broad daylight fears that younger girls could be targeted unless her assailant is caught.

Police are hunting for two men, one of whom touched up the 24-year-old victim in Dunfermline’s Pittencrieff Park and made an inappropriate comment to her as she sat alone on a bench.

The woman said she looks younger than her age and believes that the man was scouting for girls in their early teens.

After she fled the scene, she claimed he contacted another man standing nearby by mobile phone who then followed her.

She said: “I think he thought I was younger than I am. It’s the 14-year-old girls that need to watch out.”

The assault occurred near the park entrance by Dunfermline Abbey at around 1.10pm on Sunday, while the area was busy with families and walkers.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses and help to trace the men, both described as dark-skinned and in their late 20s or early 30s.

The victim was sitting on a bench when the man sat down next to her and tried to make conversation.

He placed his hand on her stomach and chest and said “I like the skinny ones”, before she elbowed him off and ran away.

She said: “I saw him walking about, zig-zagging, waiting for everyone to leave before he sat down.”

She believes other people will have seen the men and said police told her one of them had been filmed on CCTV.

The victim was unhurt but shocked and distraught by the incident.

The first man was described as having dark hair and a black beard and was wearing a leather jacket, white T-shirt and red training shoes.

The other man he was believed to have been with was slim built and bald. He was wearing work trousers and a green hooded top.

Detective Inspector Kelly McEwan said: “Anyone who saw either or both of these men in Pittencrieff Park or the surrounding area or who has information that can help us to trace them is asked to contact us on 101.”

Exactly a week earlier a man was assaulted in another Dunfermline park as he walked his dog.

The 30-year-old was struck by a knife-wielding stranger on a public path to the north of Duloch Park at around 10.15am on April 23.

The suspect was described as white, around 5ft 8in, with brown stubble.
