£10k grant to reveal treasures
A Fife museum has been awarded a £10,000 lottery grant for an exhibition about the history that lies under our feet.
The Scottish Fisheries Museum’s East Neuk Unearthed will be accompanied by a programme of events celebrating the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.
Money from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £3,500 from Fife Council will bring together objects found on or near the museum site.
The exhibition will include artefacts from the Anstruther museum’s own collection and local finds borrowed from the Nationals Museums Scotland and other Fife collections.
Events will include pewter casting workshops, medieval re-enactment days, Minecraft treasure hunts and other opportunities for people to get involved in uncovering local history.
Anstruther and the museum will also be revealed in Minecraft form, with Immersive Minds.
Curator Linda Fitzpatrick said: “It’s great that we have been awarded this grant and we can’t wait to get started.
“It’s wonderful to be able to bring all these fascinating objects back home and to share them in such fun and innovative ways with our visitors.
“There’s so much more to discover about our past and we would love to hear from people who would like to get involved in sharing these stories.”
The exhibition opens tomorrow and runs to July 30.
