Open Day to mark Scotscraig Golf Club’s bicentenary

-

One of the oldest golf clubs in the world is ready to celebrate its bicentenary.

Scotscraig Golf Club in Fife – the 13th oldest club in the world – boasts a championship course that was an Open qualifier six times between 1984 and 2010 and is host to many other prestigious tournaments and competitions.

The clubhouse opened in 1896 and has welcomed guests ever since. And as part of the bicentenary celebrations, it will welcome many more.

The club is hosting an Open Day on Sunday, May 7, featuring a wide range of activities including a free game of golf, beat the pro, putting and chipping competitions, the longest drive and a junior practice area.

Everyone is welcome to attend – old and young, complete beginners right through to lifelong golfers – and can learn more about the club and what it has to offer.

Scotscraig Golf Club is open year-round and is very rarely affected by the weather. There are different types of membership available and they offer a Get Into Golf promotion for those who are picking up an iron for the first time or after a long break. Memberships available include youth (18 -25 year olds), young adults (26-32 year olds) and also trial memberships all at very competitive rates.

The club recently appointed Derek McKenzie as the general manager, with the aim of helping ensure Scotscraig continues to develop and modernise.

Born and bred in Elgin, Derek represented Scotland at Under 15 and Schoolboy level before embarking on the pathway of PGA professional at Forres GC, Banchory GC and then down to Ayrshire to the Brunston Castle GC as Head PGA Professional.

The horizon widened as his career continued to Germany, Egypt, Spain, Thailand and finally Chippenham in Wiltshire. The last 15 years his career moved into golf management and included completing a degree course in Leadership and Management and also the highest association award of Certified Club Manager through the Club Manager Association of Europe.

Derek and the whole team at Scotscraig are looking forward to welcoming visitors old and new to the Open Day.
