Former Dundee FC director Ian Ross Bodie

-

One of Dundee FC’s former directors has died suddenly after health problems.

Ian Ross Bodie was on the board between 2007 and 2010 and was a lifelong fan.

Born in Broughty Ferry in 1946, he attended his first match at Dens in 1958 and was at Muirton Park in 1962 for Dundee’s Championship-winning game.

He combined his financial background with his love of the Dees to join the Dens Park board.

His support for Dundee did not wane after stepping down from the board and he continued to be a season ticket holder – and had even been at Fir Park for Dundee’s victory on Saturday.

Mr Bodie was schooled in Hong Kong where his father was in the police, latterly as chief inspector. His younger brothers Graham and Gordon were born there. Ian attended Morrisons Academy between 1958 and 1962 before finishing his schooling at Morgan Academy.

He met Elizabeth Scrimgeour at Morgan and they married in April 1970 at Wallacetown church.

They have three daughters – Claire, 42, who lives in Vancouver, Alison, 40, who works for Network Rail in Perth, and Hilary, 35, owner of The Cheesery in Dundee’s Exchange Street.

Mr Bodie embarked on an accounting apprenticeship and became chartered in 1970. His career took him initially to Cambridge to work for Pye Unicam, then returned to Scotland to Coopers & Lybrand in Edinburgh.

There was another move to Britoil in Glasgow in 1983 before returning to Dundee to take up a post of finance director for Sidlaw Industries and later Danisco. In 2001 he joined Amcor Flexibles as managing director of the Scandinavian division.

Mr Bodie was also a keen golfer and has played at Downfield and Blairgowrie Clubs.

He is survived by wife, daughters, grandchildren Lauren, Katie and Finn and brothers.
