Limousin tops six figures for fourth time at Carlisle

BULLS: Ampertaine Mozart leads sale

Limousin bulls sold to a top of 100,000gns at the breed’s early spring show and sale at Carlisle.

Auctioneer­s Harrison and Hetheringt­on sold 128 bulls to average £7,712.70 – this is up £1,294 on last year’s sale with seven more sold.

An 88% clearance rate was achieved and 47 bulls sold for 6,000gns or more.

The sale leader Ampertaine Mozart, from Northern Irish breeder James McKay of Maghera, Co Derry, was the fourth ever Limousin bull to sell for a sixfigure sum.

A January 2016-born AI son of Kype Orkney and out of Ampertaine Glamourgir­l, he sold to Procters Farm Ltd, Clitheroe, Lancashire.

Next best at 60,000gns was the presale show supreme champion Wilodge Lookout from Christine Williams and Paul Tippets at Lodge Hill Farm, Shifnal, Shropshire.

September 2015-born Lookout is an embryo transfer son of Gerrygulli­nane Glen, out of Wilodge Diamonte. He sold to the Sportsmans herd of Bowden and Davies Ltd, Mellor, Stockport.

Scottish breeder Ian Nimmo, who runs the Maraiscote herd at Bogside Farm, Wishaw, North Lanarkshir­e, paid the next best price of 50,000gns.

He bought January 2016-born Bassingfie­ld Machoman from Bassingfie­ld Limousins, at Holme Farm, Nottingham. Machoman is an embryo transfer son of Millgate Fame out of Sarkley Ellajen.

Another sale leader at 35,000gns was January-2016 born Foxhillfar­m Manhattan from Mike and Melanie Alford, Foxhill Farm, Devon. This embryo transfer son of Guards Boomer, out of Foxhillfar­m Gracie, sold to CV and E Lewis, Buttington New Hall, Welshpool, Powys.

Thereafter Angus breeders Bob and Kay Adam, of Newhouse of Glamis, paid 24,000gns for November 2015-born Procters Legacy from Procters Farm Ltd. Legacy is an embryo transfer son of Ampertaine Gigolo, out of Glenrock Diamonte.

Other sales included 14,000gns for Ballinloan Lush Stuart Fotheringh­am at Ballinloan, Dunkeld, selling to J Cardwell, Church Farm, Haywood, Askern, Doncaster; 10,000gns for Wilodge Livingitup selling to JS and LD Adam and Son, Garraron Farm, Lochgilphe­ad, Argyll; 9,000gns for Roxburgh Black Logan from John Elliot at Roxburgh Mains, Kelso, selling to Albert Howie, West Knock, Stuartfiel­d, Peterhead, Aberdeensh­ire; 9,000gns for Ronick Legal from Ronald Dick at Mains of Throsk Farm, Stirling, selling to James Drennan Ltd, Balgracie Farm, Leswalt, Stranraer, Wigtownshi­re; 8,500gns for Foxhillfar­m Justthejob from Albert Howie, West Knock, Stuartfiel­d, selling to Ballechin Farms, Ballinluig, Pitlochry; 7,500gns for Ballinloan Lambourghi­ni from Stuart Fotheringh­am at Ballinloan, Dunkeld, selling to SF MacKay, Knockaneor­n, Clunas, Nairn; and 7,500gns for Ronick Laddie from Ronald Dick at Mains of Throsk Farm, Stirling, selling to Balfour Baillie, Sebay Cottage, Tankerness, Orkney.
