Restocked Lintrathen providing good sport

-

LINTRATHEN LOCH is continuing to fish well and has been recently restocked with a good number of 2lb+ fish and several rainbows over 5lb.

Best flies to date include Kate McLaren, diawl bach, damsels, cormorant and anything green and black.

Some of the noted catches include Dundee West End AC, five boats, 27 fish for 54lb 6oz; Dundee AC, six boats, 36 fish, 76lb 8oz, five returned; Balbeggie AC, seven boats, 17 fish, 34lb 3oz; Loanhead AC, nine boats, 36 fish, 73lb 11oz; Brechin AC, six evening boats, 14 fish, 30lb 6oz.

The best fish of the season so far was caught by M Wilson from the Fife ABC&D AC at 5lb 10oz, taken on an orange dancer.

Best individual catch has gone to Rab Gardner who had 24 fish on catch and release over two outings. John Browning (Glen Isla) had 12 for 27lb 4oz in three sessions.

Buzzers, WSWs and dry flies are proving the most popular at

CARLOGIE DAM with most anglers getting a good mix of brown, rainbow and blue trout.

Monday’s day session at MONIKIE and

CROMBIE, was unfishable due to the wind, but the evening session provided some superb top-of-the-water fishing for the bailiff boat all over the Island pond.

Last week 80 day anglers caught 317 fish, including those returned, while 36 evening anglers took 156 fish.

Some good fish came off last week including Alex Murray with a 3lb 8oz brown off the Island and Dave Simpson with a stunning 4lb 8oz rainbow off the North.

Buzzers continue to provide most of the sport. Midge tip lines or floaters with cormorants, hares ear, traffic light buzzers, crunchers, snatchers, orange blobs, mini boobies and small black and green lures, were taking fish, while in colder, bright days the fish went down but could be contacted with the same mix of buzzers fished of a fast glass line and orange blobs.

The bailiff boat had a cracking day on Monday taking six fish for 12lb 8oz with about a dozen returned.

These were mostly taken on dry size 14 black Shipman’s and CDC yellow owl, then, when the sun came out, on buzzers fished off a floater or midge tip.

The teams at the Spring Fly Fishing International at Chew Valley Lake were faced with bright conditions and some rare moments of light cloud cover.

On competition day the teams caught 108 trout for 294.04lb.

The match was fished with a four-fish kill followed by catch and release. All brown trout were returned and an allowance of 2lb was given for each.

England were convincing winners with 43 trout for 112.85lb.

Scotland had 29 fish for 84.11lb, Wales were third with 22 for 58.96lb and Ireland took 15 for 38.12lb.

English rods were first, second, third and fifth, while Scottish anglers were fourth, sixth and ninth.

The heaviest fish of the day – at 5.5lb – was caught by Stuart McLean, who was top rod for Scotland with four fish for 13.01lb.
