Leisure centre marks 30 years
One of Fife’s most popular leisure centres is celebrating 30 years of keeping the local community active and feeling great.
Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is marking 30 years since Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre opened its doors with a look back at its role in the community.
People are being invited to join in the celebrations at 1pm on Friday June 2, with cake and refreshments being served.
On display will be photos and information about the centre’s development since its opening in June 1987 by Provost James Johnston.
The trust delivers 68 classes per week, sees 200 gym visits and more than 150 swim sessions per day, with around 470 participants enrolled in its Learn To Swim programme.
It is the only leisure centre in Scotland to offer water-based fitness equipment, Aquagym.
Sharon Johnstone, the trust’s area leisure manager, said: “Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre is a very well-used facility – it has provided a great resource for people of all ages and abilities in the local area to enjoy physical activity and get active.
“We would love people to come along to our 30th anniversary and join in the celebrations – we have also invited former staff to enjoy the day, and duty manager Andy Wilson, who marks 30 years of employment at the centre and his birthday, will do the honour of cutting the cake.”
