Low in the dark over future at Dens Park
Dundee: Dark Blues midfielder unsure where he will be plying his trade next season
Dundee’s Nicky Low has admitted his future is in limbo as the uncertainty over who will occupy the Dens Park managerial hot-seat on a permanent basis drags on.
The 25-year-old midfielder was sent out on loan to League of Ireland side Derry City in January in a bid to secure regular football.
Low has established himself as a regular for Kenny Shiels’ Candy Stripes and has become a fans’ favourite at the club.
The Derry City manager is keen for the former Aberdeen player to join permanently but Low, who still has one year left on his deal at Dens, admits he is waiting to hear anything on his immediate future at his parent club.
Neil McCann took charge of the Dark Blues on an interim basis with five games to go in the Premiership campaign following Paul Hartley’s sacking.
He steered the club to safety but yesterday the Sky Sports pundit decided against taking the post permanently and Low admitted he has not heard anything regarding his own future.
He said: “Not yet, sadly. Neil McCann has announced he’s not going to be the manager so as soon as his successor gets announced, there will be a few phone calls to see if I’m in the plans or if I’m not.
“In the meantime I’m concentrating on my time at Derry and I’m loving it so far.
“I’ve been made to feel really welcome by the players, and the management, staff. The fans have been different class.
“They have taken to me and that has made things really easy so I’m really enjoying my time here.
“I have another year’s contract at Dundee but I might give the new man a call and hopefully get it sorted and see where my future’s at.
“At this moment in time, it’s up in the air. I plan to go back to Dundee but I’m not really sure.
“I know Kenny is keen to keep me here, and I’ve had a few other offers at the start of the season but we just have to wait and see until Dundee announce their new manager.”
Low, whose time at Dens has been blighted by injury and illness, admits that he has been revelling playing regular full-time football for Derry City.
He added: “I’ve played nearly every game here bar one or two, which has been really good for me to be honest.
“I am having a good time and I’ve really enjoyed it. We’ve a good team spirit.”
