Preparatio­ns proceeding apace for West Fife Show

Varied programme on the cards for visitors

The Central and West Fife Agricultur­al Show committee is gearing up for this year’s extravagan­za.

Being held on Saturday at Hilton Farm, Kelty, this year’s event will have a strong focus on family fun and discovery.

The show will allow the public to see a variety of animals and events including dairy and beef cattle, sheep, poultry, ponies and show jumping.

The main ring entertainm­ent includes Clydesdale horse turnouts, a tug o’ war competitio­n and the popular roll a bale of straw competitio­n.

For children there will be the baby animals tent with the young of a variety of animals including lambs, calves, goats, chicks and even an alpaca.

The Royal Highland Education Trust will also have various activities as well as giving children the chance to milk Daisy the cow.

There will be a storytelle­r, a sheep shearing demonstrat­ion, a decorated boiled egg or vegetable animal competitio­n and lots of scarecrows too.

Jenny Thomson from Courses for Cooks will be running two cookery demonstrat­ions. In the morning, she will demonstrat­e how to make homemade potato scones and the perfect omelette.

For the afternoon demonstrat­ion, Jenny will be making strawberry shortcake and looking for some child volunteers to help with the decorating.

Other attraction­s include terrier racing, highland dancing and vintage tractors and a variety of trade stands.

There’s the craft marquee with a cookery show and Glasgow Science Centre’s Body Works On Tour team.

A dog show will also be held, with classes ranging from pedigree puppies through to the waggiest tail.

Entries are taken from 1.30pm on the day with judging starting at 2pm.

The show, from 9am to 5pm, is held at the farm with permission of the Thomson family.

Admission costs £10 for adults, £5 for OAPs with children under 14 admitted free. Parking is also free.
