Fife schools top of the class at Scottish Education Awards

-

Two Fife schools have been celebrating their remarkable success at this year’s Scottish Education Awards.

Kirkton of Largo Primary School took home the Learning through Technology Award after judges were impressed with the way teachers used the Glow system to create a space for children to share learning with each other.

And Dalgety Bay Primary School also triumphed, picking up the Enterprise and Employability across Learning (Primary) award – thanks to a strategic plan put in place to ensure children can develop their interests, strengths, skills and aspirations through their experiences at school.

Carrie Lindsay, executive director for education and children’s services at Fife Council, said: “We were delighted that two Fife primary schools were recognised in the 2017 Scottish Education Awards with the top prizes in their categories.

“Two teachers, Kirsty Luke of Rimbleton Primary and Alexis Perkins of Inzievar Primary, were also finalists in the Teacher of the Year Award which is quite an achievement.

“In Fife we are passionate about encouraging our children and young people to learn and reach their full potential both when in school and when preparing for the world of work.

“We have a number of initiatives in place to ensure that learning in our schools is engaging and that our teachers use their creativity to make lessons come to life.

“To win, or to simply be nominated, for these awards is a testament to all the great work going on throughout Fife and I would like to congratulate all our teachers, children and young people and parents for their hard work.”
