Reuters Agency learns that it has been decided that all members of the Hellenic Royal Family, except the new King, will have to leave Greece, and that they will be accompanie­d by the most prominent of the pro-German politician­s and militarist­s who form part of the entourage of King Constantin­e. No indication has yet reached London as to the line of policy which M. Venezelos intends to adopt in regard to the change in the sovereignt­y of Greece, but it is known that he has several moves in mind.

50 years ago

Carnoustie Panmure FC are disappoint­ed at the decision of Carnoustie Town Council to ban beat dances in the Beach Hall. Several months ago they applied for the use of the hall for four dances during the summer months. This was granted on condition that the club made sure there was no trouble. Two dances have been run and a third was due to be held on Friday, but club officials have been told their lets for the remaining dances have been cancelled because of rowdyism at the previous two.

Four Kelty newsagent employees, notching up almost 300 years between them, look set to hit the headlines. John Dodds, with his wife Ann, runs two shops in the village. He read an article in the Newagents’ Federation magazine in which an English newsagent claimed to have the oldest news team in the country. But his staff was beaten by the Kelty family-run firm. In the shop are the golden oldie quartet of Mary Sinclair, 81, Annie Mitchell, 80, Patricia Burt, 62 and Helen Hamilton, 71.

Social media has overtaken TV for the first time as young people’s main source of news. Figures released by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism showed that half (51%) of all online users surveyed said they used social media as a news source, with one in 10 saying it was their main method. The number of young people, between 18 and 24, who said they used social media as their main news source had surpassed those who watched news on television at 28% compared with 24%.
