New era as famous festival celebrates 21st anniversary

-

Arbroath Seafest is making its 21st year with a new name and another great line-up of seaside fun. The Arbroath Sea and Food Festival will take place on August 5-6 with festival chairman Ed Murdoch looking forward to the beginning of a new era.

The gathering has been renamed in order to embrace the increasing importance of local produce to the event.

“The new name aims to reflect the fact that locally and nationally there is an increase in quality food and artisan producers,” says Ed.

With all things food such a big draw at the festival, it’s no surprise some of the biggest names on the local restaurant scene will make a welcome return to proceedings.

Jamie Scott, former winner of Masterchef the Professionals, will bring some of the recipes from his restaurant the Newport to the food demonstration area, while Adam Newth of the Tayberry Restaurant – former Young Chef of the Year and Young Seafood Chef of the Year – will also be on hand to demonstrate his culinary expertise to the crowds.

Ed explains that all of the food offerings at the Arbroath Sea and Food Festival have been carefully selected.

“The emphasis is on quality produce and artisan producers of more niche, speciality foods,” he says.

A street food stall offering tempting treats such as steak subs or hand stretched pizza is sure to appeal and there will also be plenty of opportunities to buy local food.

Of course, the famous Arbroath Smokie will be making an appearance, just follow the tell-tale plume of smoke and delicious aroma for the ultimate taste of Angus.

Alongside the food offerings, the festival will offer an action-packed programme of entertainment from 11am to 5pm each day.

A fantastic line-up of local bands will be playing over the weekend so the programme will offer almost non-stop music for the duration of the event.

There is also a strong local feel to the event, with community groups and children’s groups taking to the stage to showcase their talents.

O’Brien’s Fun Fair returns to Arbroath with the famous waltzers and other rides and attractions offering thrills and spills for the whole family and thrillseekers will love the opportunity to try out the mobile zip line on the Saturday.

All weekend, a graffiti artist will be painting a mural relating to the festival.

Throw face-painters, stalls and lots of child-friendly entertainment into the mix and you are guaranteed a great day out at Arbroath Sea and Food Festival.

Ed adds: “There is still time to get involved.

“A lot of the food slots have already been snapped up but there is still space available, especially if you have something new and different to offer our visitors.”
