Unwanted visitors travelling into our trolleys
With fruit imported from around the world, it is no surprise the occasional stowaway can slip into our supermarket trolleys.
Spare a thought for the south London family who discovered one of the world’s most venomous spiders in their Waitrose home delivery.
The Brazilian wandering spider, found in a bunch of bananas in 2014, ripped its own leg off to escape after being trapped.
Waitrose sent a pest control expert out to contain the arachnid, and offered the “deeply traumatised” family compensation.
And last year, a Leicester family fled their home after dozens of hatchlings, believed to be the deadly spiders, crawled out of a nest attached to bananas from Asda.
The supermarket apologised to the family and said the matter was under investigation.
