SQUASH
AITKEN MISSES OUT Dundee’s Lisa Aitken narrowly missed out on back-to-back PSA titles after losing yesterday’s Matamata Open final in Waikato, New Zealand.
The 27-year-old left-hander secured her first career title at last weekend’s New Zealand International Classic, and Aitken looked set to add another trophy after storming through the draw in Waikato, thrashing second seed Jessica Turnbull in round one before taking just 34 minutes to win back-to-back matches on Saturday.
She had also beaten top seed Audrey Landers-Murphy in last week’s quarter-finals, but the Kiwi delighted the home crowd by taking revenge yesterday. Game one proved crucial, and having narrrowly lost it, Aitken slumped to an 11-13, 5-11, 1-11 defeat.
Meanwhile Greg Lobban of Inverness completed a hat-trick of PSA titles at the Southern Open in Invercargill, defeating Malaysian top seed Ivan Yuen 11-7, 11-6, 3-11, 11-9.
