Angus councillors have backed a scheme to drop a half-day from secondary school timetables. The move, which will see pupils leave early on Wednesdays, will cost the council an extra £370,000 a year to lay on extra school buses. But this will be met via savings from a “more efficient staffing model”. It is hoped that the “half day” will allow pupils to undertake activities, like sport, volunteering or work experience. The council had originally been asked to name Friday as the candidate for change.
