Funding for dementia project

-

The People’s Postcode Lottery teamed up with Alzheimer Scotland in Fife to mark Dementia Awareness Week.

Representatives from the lottery were invited to a “tea and blether” event at Fife Dementia Resource Centre in Kirkcaldy to celebrate the week and also the funding of a new befriending project.

Earlier this year, comic Craig Hill announced that the People’s Postcode Lottery had awarded £150,000 to create two new Befriending projects, with one created in Fife to help people living with dementia in their communities.

The initiative aims to improve health and well-being.

As well as enjoying a cuppa and a slice of cake, centre staff were on hand to offer advice about dementia and information on Alzheimer Scotland’s local dementia services.

Fiona Lewis, corporate fundraiser from Alzheimer Scotland, said: “During Dementia Awareness Week, we wanted to inspire people to value friendships old and new and spend time raising awareness of what to expect when a friend or family member is diagnosed with dementia.

“We are thrilled that we are able to provide a new befriending service in Fife and we are extremely grateful to players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Once fully operational, the new project will provide support for families affected by dementia to help improve emotional health and social well-being across the region.”
