Unpaid carers urged to apply for money to help them take a break

-

Thousands of pounds of funding is still in the pot to support unpaid carers in Fife to have a break from their commitments,

Unpaid carers can get up to £400 to help them take a break with the Creative Breaks Fund.

This year Fife Voluntary Action (FVA) received £30,000 aimed at supporting carers who would benefit from a break, either with or without the person they care for.

Last year 105 carers in the region benefited from the scheme.

FVA in partnership with Fife Carers Centre, Crossroads and Fife Young Carers, receives Scottish Government money to provide funding to carers who live in Fife and look after people aged 20 and over.

Carers can decide themselves what would provide that break – be it a straightforward holiday somewhere special, driving lessons to support them getting out and about or even the technology to help them keep in touch with relatives and friends.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Jo Clark, project manager with Fife Voluntary Action, said: “Unpaid carers in Fife do incredible work so we’re happy to support them to take a welldeserved break.

“If you or someone you know could benefit from this fund, we’d love to hear from you.”

Applications of up to £400 can be made and FVA can support applicants with the process.

To apply complete the application form at fifevoluntaryaction.org.uk/ shortbreaks or telephone 0800 389 6046.
