Tangerines land winger McMullan

-

Dundee United have won their transfer tug-o-war with Hearts for Celtic winger Paul McMullan.

The 20-year-old, who has played for Stenhousemuir, St Mirren, Morton and Dunfermline on loan in the past two-and-a-half years, is leaving the Parkhead club without making an appearance. They are, however, due a development fee.

McMullan, who scored seven times for the Pars during his season-long loan in the last campaign, opted for life in the Championship at Tannadice as opposed to playing in the Premiership at Tynecastle.

The winger told United’s website: “I was aware of United’s interest from the end of the season, and it was a case of coming back from holiday and waiting on the clubs agreeing on the deal.

“The manager spoke to me and explained how he wants to play and what my role would be, and it appealed to me.

“I see this as a fantastic opportunity for me to progress my career at a great club.”

United manager Ray McKinnon said: “Paul is an excellent attacking option, and once I realised that he might be available, I worked quickly to make it happen.

“It is important that we bring in the right players to ensure a balance within the squad and this signing gives us greater options out wide.”
