Rain spices up Tay salmon fishing

-

Recent rain spiced up the salmon fishing on the Tay, with around 120 landed last week.

The biggest fish recorded was 21lb from Murthly, with Islamouth proving top beat.

Upstream, Stobhall saw four and the Ballathie and Cargill beats had 12 between them.

On Ballathie, Roger Birnam’s party enjoyed a good week with fish landed up to 15lb.

Gordon Robinson landed a personal best of just below 20lb on Cargill.

Islamouth had another consistent week.

Good fish up to 15lb were caught at Upper Islamouth and Meikleour. Meikleour hosted the first AFYD group (Angling for Youth Development) ‘hens & bairns’ event.

Kercock had a better week with five.

Fish up to 14lb came from Burnbane.

The Murthly beats did well with 20 between them. Glendelvine had seven. The Tummel is continuing to see sport from the Port-naCraig beat administered by Pitlochry Angling Club, with five landed last week.

There are now more than 3,000 fish through the dam.
