Major Scottish Water upgrading works programme due to start

-

Scottish Water’s £4.5 million project to improve the water network across Scotland begins in Dunfermline.

Work to install new valves, hydrants and cross connections will take place in and around Pilmuir Street, Victoria Terrace, Arthur Street, Townhill Road, Thistle Street and neighbouring roads.

The rolling six to eight week programme begins on Saturday at the junction of Pilmuir Street and Victoria Terrace, with a section of Victoria Terrace between Bannerman Street closed for around three weeks.

As the work progresses to neighbouring streets, most of the works will be done under local traffic management. However there will be road closures in Arthur Street, at its junction with Townhill Road, during the work.

Project manager Thomas Lochrie said: “This work in Dunfermline is part of a wider programme across Scotland to improve customers’ security of their water supply, and reduce the overall risk of burst mains in the network.

“During the works customers may experience some interruption to supply, a change in water pressure and/or discoloured water.

“If this happens don’t be alarmed, turn on the cold water tap in your kitchen, let the water flow slowly until it runs clear.”

Regional communities team manager Ruaridh Macgregor added the timing coincided with school holidays to minimise the impact on traffic.

“Following this initial programme, Scottish Water will be implementing a further six to eight week programme to remove redundant assets from the network and carry out road resurfacing.”
