Canongate pupils win praise
Canongate Primary School pupils have been hailed as “confident and articulate” in the St Andrews school’s latest HMI inspection.
The report outlined a number of strengths, such as the nursery’s high-quality learning experiences and confident children who are making good progress in learning.
The pupils across the school were also praised for their enjoyment and use of outdoor space.
Head teacher Patricia Shafren said: “The school has gone through a significant period of change.
“It is good that the report recognises that the school is now enjoying a period of stability where a collegiate approach and mutual respect exists.
“The report has also highlighted areas for improvement and these were in line with areas identified through our own self-evaluation.
“Areas to improve include tracking and monitoring pupils’ progress, improving experiences and attainment in literacy and numeracy and developing a bespoke curriculum for Canongate that takes account of our unique setting.
“We have already started work to address these points and look forward to working with a range of partners to make the identified improvements.”
Education officer Nora Conlin welcomed the inspectors’ findings.
