Winger Wolters delighted to swap Dutch deal for Dens

Dundee’s new signing Randy Wolters has admitted the certainty of a two-year deal at Dens persuaded him to turn down the chance to stay in his Dutch homeland with ADO Den Haag.

The 27-year-old winger became Dark Blues boss Neil McCann’s fourth signing of the summer on Wednesday night.

Wolters had a spell on loan last season with Den Haag and was expected to return permanently after being released by parent club Go Ahead Eagles at the end of the campaign.

However, budget uncertainty meant contract talks were delayed, with Dundee seizing their chance to make a move at the start of this week.

Wolters, who returned to Holland after penning his deal at Dens, said: “ADO has been close to my heart from an early age.

“But then Dundee made contact on Monday and everything happened very quickly. A two-year deal was an opportunity and offer I could not refuse.

“Dundee tried very hard to get me and see me as a major transfer. It has always been one of my dreams to play abroad.”

One of McCann’s earlier signings, Roarie Deacon, mostly plays in the wide areas, with the manager, who of course was a winger of distinction for Dundee, Hearts, Rangers and Scotland, obviously Randy Wolters. keen to provide more ammunition from the flanks.

That is something the Dark Blues have lacked in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, McCann’s summer signing spree is almost certainly not at an end.

Skipper Darren O’Dea and Kosta Gadzhalov are the only two fit centrebacks at the club as James McPake and Julen Etxabeguren work their way back from serious knee and achilles injuries respectively.

With Kevin Gomis having left the club, McCann will possibly be on the lookout for central defensive cover.
