Flats plan submitted for hotel
Plans have been lodged to turn part of a prominent St Andrews hotel into six flats.
Playfair Hotels Limited is seeking planning permission to change the use, alter and extend the Pilmour Hotel on Playfair Terrace to form half a dozen flats.
The hotel forms one part of a development which also incorporates the Ardgowan Hotel.
Guests who use the Pilmour check in at the Ardgowan and then exit back on to the street to access the rooms.
However, both hotels are linked internally through from the kitchen of the Ardgowan directly to the bar area of the Pilmour.
The hotel is located in the St Andrews Conservation Area but outwith the town centre, and forms part of a terrace of B-listed buildings.
A spokesperson for agents Montgomery Forgan Associates said it believed the change of use would be justified, noting: “Pilmour Place and the neighbouring Playfair Terrace already has a mix of houses, flats and HMOs and is therefore predominantly residential in nature.
“To change the use of the hotel to six residential flats will help to balance the use of buildings within the conservation area, which in turn, will help maintain a balanced and mixed community.”
If consent is granted, work could begin later this year.
