Co-op funding shines spotlight

-

Members of Cupar Amateur Musical Society have been switched on to the Co-op’s membership scheme after receiving money to improve the lighting in Cupar Corn Exchange.

When a Co-op member buys own-brand products from food stores or a funeral plan or funeral from Funeralcare they earn a 5% reward for themselves with a further 1% going to local good causes.

All those one percents added up to the £1,860 payout to CAMS.

Its vice-president Raymond Young said: “We were fortunate in receiving funds to improve the lighting in Cupar Corn Exchange, and what a difference this has made to our performances and those of other groups, many of which are children’s drama, music and dance groups.

“The new system also makes life on the stage better as it is LED lighting and it does not generate the heat we had before. It also uses less energy.

“We cannot believe the difference it has made.”

Money is raised over a six month period, and Co-op stores in and around Cupar are currently supporting AMS, Cupar YMCA/YWCA, and Triangle Under 5s.

Chief Co-op membership officer, Rufus Olins, said: “The more people shop, the more we share and we’d really like to increase the amounts that we pay out. So the way communities can help to achieve this is to become a member and shop with the Co-op.”
