Councillors get behind campaign to stop six-month road closure
Councillors have spoken out against a developer’s plans for a six-month road closure as part of a Kinghorn housing development.
Lovell Homes maintains closing a stretch of the B923 east of Kinghorn Loch is the best option for ensuring the safety of workers and the public during construction at its Lochside Grange site.
Fife Council has asked the firm to come up with a solution that would keep the through road between Burntisland and Kinghorn open.
Residents who raised concerns about the impact on businesses and traffic through the towns have been backed by councillors Gordon Langlands, Kathleen Leslie and Lesley Backhouse.
Mr Langlands said: “It was very disappointing to hear that despite a site visit with Lovell and a request for them to come up with a more creative solution, they have put in a road closure request for 24 weeks for the B923 at Kinghorn Loch.
“The community feedback we have had is that residents were expecting partial road closures with traffic-light management and not a full closure.
“The preferred option expressed at our meeting with transportation was for Lovell to install a temporary road through the north side of their development to divert traffic.
“Apart from the obvious effects on the community and local businesses, the effect on access for the emergency services into Kinghorn and Burntisland was highlighted.
“The next meeting will be between transportation and Lovell and it is to be hoped that transportation can convince them to be much more receptive to the concerns of the community.”
