Jamie marches on in the mixed

-

Scot Jamie Murray and Martina Hingis are continuing to forge a strong partnership, and they march on in the mixed doubles.

Ten years after Jamie Murray teamed up with Jelena Jankovic to land a Wimbledon title, he might be on for another trophy given his form and the calibre of his partner.

They beat the Czech pair of Lucie Hradecka and Roman Jebavy 6-3 6-4 in a rain-affected match on Court Two to become the first pairing into the quarter-finals.

Mention the Jankovic win to Murray and he fondly remembers that adventure.

“People mention it to me and it seems like so long ago, I was only 21 at the time,” he said.

“I’d just started playing on the main tour and we ended up winning. I’d never played mixed doubles before.” *** Johanna Konta appeared to have to school a Chelsea Pensioner in the art of a ‘selfie’, after she was cornered for a picture following her quarterfinal win.

Britain’s new Centre Court hero was coming off court when she was asked to pose for a picture with one of the large group of veterans.

It seemed, however, that the camera-phone was befuddling its owner, prompting Konta to take charge of the situation and snap the shot herself.

There was no doubt it turned out well, given the Pensioner’s celebratory dance in front of the TV cameras.

QUOTE OF THE DAY – “Right now it’s a little bit surreal” – Johanna Konta is in a Wimbledon semi-final, and it’s hard for her to believe.

TODAY’S MATCH OF THE DAY – Roger Federer and Milos Raonic played out a classic semi-final 12 months ago, and they meet one round earlier this time.
