Federer pic eases pain

-

Magdalena Rybarikova lost her Wimbledon semi-final to Garbine Muguruza without ever really getting going.

But there was a happier end to her day, as the Slovakian met Roger Federer by the players’ transport desk and posed for a picture with the seven-time champion.

She posted the shot on Instagram and wrote: “Tough day at the office today for me. I was trying to play the best i could but it was just not working, on the other side @garbimuguruza played amazing and big congrats to her and wishing her good luck in the final.

“@rogerfederer made my day a little easier :) I want to thank you one more time for your huge support i appreciate it a lot. Semifinal is great :)” QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Damn, I’m done.” – Johanna Konta’s first thought after Venus Williams denied her a final place. TWEET OF THE DAY

“@JoKonta91 Jo, you did great. We’re so proud of you and I’d like you to come as my guest to one of my gigs. Van” musician Van Morrison (@vanmorrison) hails Britain’s semi-final star, joining U2 and Mick Jagger in her fan club. Konta replied: “Thank you so much! I would love to!” MATCH OF THE DAY

Sam Querrey and Marin Cilic have both played a great tournament to reach the semifinal stage, but now it becomes deadly serious. Will either man have a better – or another – chance of reaching a Wimbledon final during their careers? When they walk out for their Centre Court clash today all bets are off. Inspiration as much as perspiration will carry one man over the line. Goran Ivanisevic has been tipping Cilic for the title since day one.
