UNITED: Tangerines to cash in as former defender lines up £8m Liverpool move

The imminent sale of Andy Robertson from Hull City to Liverpool will be “great news” for Dundee United, manager Ray McKinnon has admitted.

But he doesn’t expect to get much, if any, of the Tangerines’s sell-on cash to spend in the transfer market.

The Anfield side are expected to unveil the former United full-back in an £8 million deal this week.

And that will mean over half a million pounds coming to Tannadice as part of the deal chairman Stephen Thompson agreed when Robertson went south for £3 million.

McKinnon, who hopes to add to the nine signings he has already made for his first team squad, knows the bigger picture at United.

“It’s a difficult one,” McKinnon told Courier Sport.

“I think there are a lot of bills to be paid after relegation.

“I think that’s probably where that money will go.

“That’s just where we are at Dundee United just now. It’s a fact of life. I’d like to think I might get a tiny bit but I do understand to keep the club running and afloat whatever we get will have to go somewhere else.

“That’s part and parcel of being the Dundee United manager.

“It will be brilliant to get some money in which will help the club and maybe help us achieve what we all want – to get back to the Premiership.

“If the deal goes through it will definitely be great news for the club.”
