Forecasters say the outlook for a highly anticipated Dundee gig is a “mixed picture” with “intense rainfall” and storms forecast to hit the country in the coming days.

Olly Murs will play the city’s Slessor Gardens tomorrow evening in what will be the third gig at the new waterfront venue, following hit shows by Little Mix and UB40.

However, a thunderstorm bringing heavy rain could hit Scotland overnight from today into tomorrow, and the Met Office has not ruled out the possibility that fans of the X-Factor star could be in for a wet evening too.

It comes after parts of Courier Country enjoyed the hottest temperatures in Scotland on Monday with the mercury soaring to 24.2C in Inverbervie and 23.2C in Leuchars.

The warm weather in the UK is the tail end of a heatwave which brought temperatures of more than 40C to continental Europe last week.

Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said rain is likely tomorrow evening but the chance of a “prolonged break” in between showers had not been ruled out.

He also added there is a “chance of thunder” overnight tonight in Tayside and Fife.

Mr Madge said today would be mostly “clear” in eastern Scotland, but added: “On Wednesday it looks like there will be some showers progressing further north. Eastern Scotland will be affected potentially from Wednesday into Thursday.

“So on Wednesday during the evening through into the small hours of Thursday quite intense rainfall is forecast moving north, (that) will affect eastern Scotland.

“On Thursday, we have a changing emphasis in the weather pattern. There is a low pressure system going to be to the west of Scotland bringing with it some associated fronts.

“There will be a fresher feel. There is quite a mixed picture, I’m afraid. It is not wall-to-wall rain by any means but ... you are looking at a chance of rain midday and then a further chance of rain towards evening.

“It does look like there is the potential for a prolonged break in between any rain.”
