Make Time for a winner at Sandown

Racing: Menuisier’s Makfi colt is deserving of another chance

- The FerreT

MAKE TIME can get his season back on the right track by winning the Robert Dyas Handicap at Sandown.

Trainer David Menuisier had high hopes for the Makfi colt after two sterling juvenile runs, finishing second on his debut to Frontispiece before running out a five-length winner of a soft-ground Salisbury maiden.

Five winners have emerged from those behind him that day, including Parfait, who finished fourth in the Jersey Stakes and won the Silver Bunbury Cup last weekend.

Menuisier felt Make Time merited a crack at Pattern company on his return on that basis, and took the brave step of pitching him into the Greenham at Newbury back in April.

Make Time ended up well beaten by Barney Roy and while it would be easy to assume the fast ground was against him there, the fact he had previously run well on quick conditions certainly tempers that idea. The winner is also pretty special.

Make Time has been off the track since that run, which suggest perhaps all was not well, so it could be worth giving him another go, with an initial mark of 91 giving connections a little something to work with in the future.

FITZWILLY has been the subject of some promising reports in recent days and can finally get his head in front again in the Racing Welfare Handicap at Lingfield.

The seven-year-old has not won since September 2015, but he is on his lowest mark in three years and could be ready to strike again.
