Snookerstar DJ at Scots festival

Doune the Rabbit Hole coming

The line-up for one of Scotland’s smallest, but most varied, music festivals will feature a headline turn from snooker legend Steve Davis.

He will slip into his “Snookerstar DJ” persona for a music set as one of the top acts at the eclectic Doune the Rabbit Hole event.

The 1,000-capacity festival started life in 2010 and for the past seven years has been celebrating the best of Scotland’s independent music scene alongside arts, poetry and international acts.

Festival promoters have lined up an array of Scottish and international talent for this year’s gathering, with Davis lining up alongside Roddy Woomble, BMX Bandits and Edinburgh band Aberfeldy.

Davis, once known as the dullest man in sport, made the unlikely switch from snooker to DJing thanks to a weekly show on Essex community radio station Phoenix FM, before taking to the stage at Glastonbury.

Slam poet Neil Hillborn, Norwegian avant-garde singer Jenny Hval and Malian desert-punk band Songhoy Blues are further examples of the diverse bill.

The children’s fun, meanwhile, includes circus skills, tribal drumming, a mad hatter’s tea party and beard and moustache making with Beardy Weirdy’s DIY Resplendent Adornments.

The festival will be held on the Cardross Estate, near Doune, over three days from August 18 to 20.
