Palace prepares to turn back clock for Rewind

FESTIVAL: More than 30,000 people expected to join fun

Tens of thousands of music fans will start arriving at Scone Palace today for Perthshire’s biggest music festival.

Rewind Scotland now takes that honour following the demise of T in the Park, with more than 30,000 people expected over the weekend.

Dedicated to celebrating the 1980s – the decade that style forgot – the event attracts an audience who grew up to the music and who turn out in force to see their musical idols.

Over the seven years it has been held at Scone the event has grown into a huge party, with many of the revellers entering into the spirit by dressing up in garish garb, capturing the fashions of the time.

The dedicated campers start arriving today before the big names take to the stage.

Tomorrow night’s headliners are the Human League, while the Sunday night main spot is taken by past festival favourite Billy Ocean.

Paul Carey, general manager, said: “As always at Rewind Scotland there’s something for everyone.

“Having grown up in the 1980s I’m personally looking forward to Saturday’s performance from Soul II Soul, who were most certainly the soundtrack to my teenage years.”

Making their Rewind Scotland debuts this year are Tom Robinson, the Undertones, the Trevor Horn Band Junior Marvin’s Wailers, Musical Youth and Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel.

Jaki Graham, Joy Division’s Peter Hook, Owen Paul, Sex Pistol Glen Matlock and Claudia Brucken will appear with super-group British Electric Foundation.

Performances from Level 42, Belinda Carlisle, Heather Small, Nik Kershaw, Go West, Chesney Hawkes, T’Pau, Real Thing, Soul II Soul, Kim Wilde, Nick Heyward, Jason Donovan and Dr and the Medics complete the line-up.

Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for the weather but the forecast is for some rain on both days.

Colin Stewart, Perth and Kinross Council’s convener of environment, enterprise and infrastructure and a local member for Strathmore, said, “Rewind is a really great event which attracts many loyal fans and shows off the vibrancy and diversity of our local cultural scene.”
