The first campers attending this year’s Rewind Festival descended on Perthshire yesterday, with people arriving as early as 6.30am.

Hundreds of revellers had queued for hours to await entry to the campsite, with Blondie tribute band, Dirty Harry, entertaining the crowd on Friday night.

Those waiting to gain entry to the 80s festival, located beside Scone Palace, displayed a party spirit, with many wearing colourful outfits.

Hannah Wylie, 18 and boyfriend Alastair McLellan, 19, of Alness, said they were one of the first arrivals at the site, having slept in their car overnight outside Perth and arrived at the site around 6.30am.

Miss Wylie said: “I’ve been here once before with my family but it’s a first for Ally. We’re both really looking forward to seeing all the bands, especially Nik Kershaw and Billy Ocean.”

Ian Martin, 65 and his son Martin Burgess, 37, of Bradford, said they had got to Scone at around 8am.

The former said: “This is the second time we have been to Rewind up here but we’ve been to some of their festivals in England. My son’s very first festival was attending Rewind here back in 2013.

“It’s a great event and everyone gets into the 80s spirit by dressing up and having fun, which is what it is all about.”

Julie Horne, 42, of Cowie, near Stirling, said her party of 12 had arrived at the site at 7.35am.

“It’s a great festival with so many people getting dressed up and entering into a party spirit,” she said. “I made sure we got our tickets as soon as they went on sale.”

Meanwhile, Donna Munro, 50, of Glasgow, said she and her group of 20 friends were “desperate” to see the Human League and had got to the site at 8am.

“We’re keen to see everybody at Rewind – it’s such a good line-up,” she said.

“This is the second time we’ve been here – it’s a fantastic festival.”

David Heartfield is the brains behind the event and came up with the idea nine years ago.

He had said: “I had an event all set up, but no main bands to play at it. Carol Decker of T’Pau suggested we get a few 80s bands together and the rest is history.”

The weather forecast is for showers on both Saturday and Sunday.

Today’s event, which is sold out, will see a host of top bands performing, including headline act the Human League.

The main stage will also see the Trevor Horn Band, Nik Kershaw, Go West, Tom Robinson, T’Pau, the Undertones and the Real Thing.

Tomorrow, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, Belinda Carlisle, Kim Wilde and Doctor and the Medics will perform, with Billy Ocean headlining.

A crowd of around 30,000 is expected over the course of the weekend.
