Solwaybank Suffolk leads the way at 26,000gn in Stirling sale

MARKET: December 2016-born ram lamb gets top price at breed’s Scottish area sale

Suffolks sold to a top of 26,000gn at the breed’s Scottish area sale in Stirling yesterday.

Leading the charge was a December 2016-born ram lamb from Iain and Judith Barbour’s Solwaybank flock at Rosefield Farm, Annan, Dumfries.

By Lakeview Harbinger, and out of a dam by Rhaedar Rastafari, he is a full brother to the 13,000gn Solwaybank Braveheart.

He sold to PW Poole, Beaconsfie­ld Farm, Battlfield, Shrewsbury.

Next best at 24,000gn was a Januarybor­n entry from Jim Innes’ Strathbogi­e flock at Dunscroft, Huntly.

By Strathbogi­e A Kind of Magic, he is out of a dam by Strathbeg Stan The Man which bred the 20,000gn Strathbogi­e Jackpot and the 16,000gn Strathbogi­e Sirius.

He sold in a two-way split to RH Goldie of Harpercrof­t, Dundonald, and GA Mackie, of Drimmie Farm, by Forfar.

Thereafter, two lots sold for 12,000gn. The first was a December 2016-born Irongray Black Magic son from Messrs WH Sinnet and Sons at Stockton Court, Worcester.

Out of a dam by Rhaeadr Mad Man, he sold to G Middleston, Rigghead, Shawhead, Dumfries.

The other was a January-born entry from Jimmy Douglas’ Cairness flock at Woodhead of Cairness, Fraserburg­h.

By the 6,500gn Cavanagrov­e Catalyst, he is out of a dam by Muiresk King of Diamonds which bred the 12,000gn Cairness Diamond Geezer. He sold to Messrs Wilson. Mr Douglas also achieved 8,000gn for another January-born Cavanagrov­e Catalyst son.

Out of a dam which is a full sister to the 17,000gn Cairness Diamond Geezer, he sold to MJ Cornish, Parkridge, Buckfastle­igh, Devon.

Other leading prices included 10,000gn for a December 2016-born entry from the Delves family’s Bridgeview flock in Powys, Wales.

By Lakeview Harbinger and out of a ewe by Solwaybank Skyfall, he sold to Suffolk Do Pinheiro, Portugal.

A December 2016-born entry from Mark Priestley’s Limestone flock in County Down sold in a three way-split for 9,500gn.

By Strathbogi­e A Kind of Magic, he sold to: RH Black, Newton of Collessie, Ladybank; John Lathangie and Son, Pyeston, Markinch; and George and Melvin Stuart, Milltown of Birness, Ellon.

Meanwhile, a January-born son of Rookery Rodeo sold for 8,000gn.

Put forward by GC Beacom, Lakeview Farm, Co Fermanagh, he sold to D Taylor, Coleraine.

The male champion from the pre-sale show, as judged by John Sinnett of Stockton Court, Stockton-on-Teme, Worcester, sold for 1,800gn.

Put forward from John Gibb’s Cairnton flock at Techmuiry, Fraserburg­h, this December-2016 son of Cairness Sir William is out of a dam by Cairnton The Cracker.

He sold jointly to JH Christie and Son, West Carse Farm, Stirling, and W and H Fleming, Hallhill, Carluke.
