A growing part of Perth Show is the food element, with the Perthshire on a Plate food festival making a welcome return for 2017.

Perthshire on a Plate celebrates the very best in local produce and culinary talent.

The festival is supported by long-standing Perth Show associates Quality Meat Scotland and is organised by Perthshire Chamber of Commerce.

The two days of the food festival will feature celebrity and local chefs, demonstrations and tastings, book signings, food and drink-related trade stands and much more.

For those who are tempted by the treats on offer, there will be a dining area and pop-up restaurants in a double celebration of food and farming.

The pop-up restaurants, featuring taster dishes from some of Perthshire’s best-loved eateries, will be a great opportunity to try delicious local produce cooked to perfection by some of the region’s most talented chefs.

Perthshire on a Plate has attracted some big names since it began and this year one of France’s most famous and best-loved chefs, Jean-Christophe Novelli, will be heading along on the Friday along with a trio of talented locally-based chefs, Willie Little of Little’s Restaurant in Blairgowrie, Willie Deans of Deans Restaurant Perth, and George Urquhart of Blair Castle.

Also on Friday, the cookery theatre will showcase the annual cookery challenge between students from Perth College and the ladies of the SWI.

On Saturday, the line-up is just as tempting, with Scottish favourite Nick Nairn headlining along with Praveen Kumar of Table Restaurant in Perth, Graeme Maxwell of Maxwell’s Desserts, Milnathort, and Chris Rowley of Ballintaggart, Pitlochry.

For celebrity chef Nick Nairn, a visit to Perth Show and Perthshire on a Plate offers the opportunity to share his enthusiasm for local produce.

“I am passionate about spreading the word about Scotland’s fabulous natural larder and will be cooking up recipes at the event which will enthuse festivalgoers about the wonderful produce that surrounds them in Perthshire.”

A food pavilion will give local food producers the chance to showcase and sell their products to new audiences and anyone with a love of food the opportunity to enjoy the wares.
