Heifer takes breed, interbreed and champion of champions
Banchory show proved a triumph for Keith farmer Gary Paterson, who repeated his success at Echt Show three weeks ago by winning the breed, interbreed and champion of champions titles with his 18-month-old Limousin heifer, Foxhillfarm Miss Money Penny.
The heifer, owned jointly with Suffolk sheep breeder Graham Morrison, Cornhill, cost 10,000gns at Carlisle in May. A full sister was interbreed champion at the Royal Highland Show.
Also continuing on their winning way were Huntly livestock dealer Blair Duffton and Rebecca Stuart from Insch, whose jointly owned Charolais cross Irish-bred heifer Gold Rush topped a strong commercial beef cattle section and went on to stand reserve for the interbreed beef cattle championship.
Judge, former Charolais breed chairman, Iain Miller, Lochend, Port of Menteith, was full of praise for the turnout of commercial cattle.
“The first prize winners were a great show when lined up for the championship,” said Mr Miller. “The show was a credit to the area.”
Former show president Robin Stewart and his wife Karen, Stablebrae, Durris, carried off the reserve champion of champions award with their native breed horse champion, the 12-year-old Highland mare, West Lodge Ashley, which has won many accolades during her long career, including the interbreed championship at Black Isle last year.
Reserve for the native horse and pony championship was the Shetland champion, the filly Lynemore Isla, from Christine Forbes, Dufftown, who also took the reserve breed championship with six-year-old mare Lynemore Finesse.
Veteran Suffolk breeder Judith Lorimer, Kingswells, with son Stuart and granddaughter Hannah, was delighted to win the interbreed sheep championship with a home-bred gimmer by Lakeview Laidlaw and also took reserve in the breed section.
Reserve award went to Stuart and Wendy Hunter, West Cairnhill, Culsalmond, with Texel champion, a homebred ewe lamb by the 1200gns Knap Yardmaster, and grand-daughter of the flock’s Irish-bred foundation female.
