Fife AC’s Annabel Simpson added the Scottish 5,000m track title to the Scottish 10,000m track crown and Scottish 5km Road Race title she won earlier this year. Competing at Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow, Simpson made light of the blowy conditions at the British Milers Club meeting incorporating both the Scottish and West/East District Championships. Leading the female field from start to finish, Simpson clocked 16 minutes 42.47 seconds, only seven seconds outside her personal best. Stacey Taylor (Kilmarnock) followed home in 16.51.93 with Nicola Gauld (Aberdeen) in third 17:16.32. Gauld was the first over 35 to finish while Katie Jones (Fife AC) claimed East over 35 silver timed at 18:59.08. Luke Traynor (Giffnock North) led home the men’s field in 14:00.63 but as he was entered only as a pacemaker the Tulsa University student could not claim any of the medals. Next home, Shettleston’s Lachlan Oates was awarded the Scottish and West men’s title clocking 14:23.43 with Kinross athlete Cameron Milne (Central AC) officially second in 14:27.25 and Dundee athlete Jamie Crowe (Central) third in a personal best 14:27.25. At the older end of the age group John Hynd (Carnegie) contested his first ever track 5,000m race winning the over 55 veteran title in 19:18.64, 39 seconds faster than his best 2017 race over the road.
