Lacazette nets on first Arsenal start

Alexandre Lacazette marked his first start at the Emirates Stadium with a goal to help Arsenal lift the Emirates Cup despite losing to Sevilla.

The club-record signing came off the bench in Saturday’s comfortable win over Benfica but played from the start against Sevilla as the Gunners slipped to a 2-1 loss.

But the rules of the competition dictate that every goal is rewarded with a point, meaning that despite Sevilla winning both of their games, Arsenal retain their own pre-season trophy after hitting five past Benfica.

Joaquin Correa had put the LaLiga outfit ahead early in the second half but Lacazette, who had been having a mixed afternoon, tapped home to level for Arsene Wenger’s side, only for Steven N’Zonzi to hit a fantastic winner.

New signings Ederson, Danilo and Kyle Walker were all named in the City starting line-up. Pep Guardiola’s men opened the scoring when Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick flicked off the wall and fell to the feet of England centre-half Stones, who made no mistake from close range.

And Sterling doubled the advantage with 16 minutes when he waltzed through an almost static Tottenham defence and turned the ball past Michel Vorm.

Victory was wrapped up in stoppage time when Tottenham failed to clear their lines after a series of shots were blocked and Diaz popped up to make it two goals from two games with a simple tap in.

Record signing Mo Salah scored and Sadio Mane made his first appearance since April as Liverpool cruised to 3-0 friendly win over Hertha Berlin at the Olympiastadion.

Dominic Solanke opened the scoring in the 15th minute before Mane, back after knee surgery, set up Georginio Wijnaldum for Liverpool’s second just past the half-hour.

Salah put his mark on the match as Liverpool continued their impressive pre-season form when he completed the scoring in the 60th minute, finishing off a lofted pass from Philippe Coutinho.
