Bar fundraising after centre fire

-

A Dundee bar is to raise funds for a community centre devastated by fire.

The city’s Ambassador Bar is hosting a race night tomorrow in an attempt to raise cash to go towards the rebuilding of Mill o’ Mains Community Pavilion.

The pavilion was destroyed during a blaze late last month.

The damage to the muchloved community centre was so great that the building had to be knocked down.

Volunteers and neighbours have since expressed their desire for the pavilion to be rebuilt. Nearly 800 people have signed a petition calling on Dundee City Council to commit to building a replacement facility.

The manager of the Ambassador Bar, Kate Fraser, hopes she can do her bit by raising funds at tomorrow night’s event.

She said: “There will be a free buffet, a DJ and a projector for the race night.

“I saw what happened. My grandchildren used the pavilion and loved it.

“All the funds raised will go towards the pavilion.

“Hopefully we will be packed.”

The race night begins from 7pm.

The Mill o’ Mains Pavilion was used by a number of community groups.

The council has confirmed it is seeking new premises to accommodate the groups that relied on the former site.
