It is asserted that the ex-Tsar of Russia had £7,000,000 invested in the Bank of England. This is brought out as the result of property valued at £140,000,000, from which the ex-Tsar enjoyed the revenue for his life only, having been taken from him by the Provisiona­l Government. A Special Commission of the Government has been discussing whether land, palaces and other property owned by Nicholas, and estimated to be worth £9,600,000, shall be sequestrat­ed by the state.

A proposed private housing developmen­t at Kingoodie, Invergowri­e, was the subject of a planning inquiry, instigated by the Scottish Secretary in Dundee City Chambers. Mr Fergus N. Davie was appealing against refusal by Perth and Kinross County Council of permission in principle to erect 19 houses in the grounds of Kingoodie House, which he occupies, and on adjacent ground to the south between the main road and the Tay. The council had limited permission to four houses.

Two French visitors on a golfing tour of Scotland had their car broken into at Murrayshal­l Hotel golf course, Scone. They are the latest victims of what has the hallmarks of an organised crimewave targeting golfers. While the tourists were out on the course, a window of their hired estate car was smashed and the thief or thieves made off with a haul, including a Sony video camera and two packed suitcases. Other items lost included flight tickets, Visa and other credit cards.

Dundee has been hammered by a jobs “tragedy” with more than 700 positions either axed or placed under threat in just eight months. Analysis in the wake of the Galloway Group going into administra­tion revealed the true impact of failing companies on workers and their families. As well as 161 people being made immediatel­y redundant at the engineerin­g and fabricatio­n company, jobs have been slashed at PressureFa­b and Flint Group, with more threatened at Elanco.
