Confirmation that Rosyth day centre for disabled is to close

-

A day centre that cares for disabled people in West Fife is to close, it has been confirmed.

Members of Fife’s Health and Social Care Partnership Board have agreed to shut the Rosyth Resource Centre, which provides weekday care, due to what it claims are falling numbers of users.

Two further facilities – Northeden House in Cupar and the Jean Mackie Centre in Dunfermline – will also close at weekends.

No jobs are expected to be lost as a result of the moves, while the Partnership says it will liaise with users in the coming weeks.

Staff at the Rosyth Resource Centre were told a fortnight ago that the future of the facility was in the hands of the board.

One employee contacted The Courier to say that the loss of the service would be a “massive blow” for its users, of which there are around 35.

The source said that closing the Rosyth Resource Centre would create a lot of stress for those who spent several days a week at the complex, as well as their families.

However, the Partnership claims the changes will allow for more person-centred care, allowing older people to participate in activities and outings.

David Heaney, divisional general manager, said those affected by the changes would be offered a range of alternative measures to meet their needs.

“We fully recognise that the day service we provide is highly valued and this change will raise some concerns,” he said.

“Over the coming weeks and months we will work very closely with everyone involved to discuss individual service user needs and ensure the transition to the new arrangements is as smooth as possible.”
