Improved accessibility at Leuchars car park extension
A Tay Bridgehead Liberal Democrat councillor has welcomed improved accessibility at Fife’s fourth busiest railway station, with the new parking arrangements there being made wheelchair and buggy-friendly.
Councillor Tim Brett expressed his appreciation to everyone at Fife Council for all their hard work surrounding the new car park development at Leuchars Railway Station – particularly in relation to access issues which had been raised in recent months.
“When Leuchars resident Jenny Thomson, a wheelchair user, contacted me, I arranged for her to meet the council engineers who were designing the station car park extension,” he explained.
“Mrs Thomson pointed out the difficulties she encountered accessing the station and in particular the need for more dropped kerbs at the existing car park entrance and from the new extension to access the ramp.
“She also showed that it was impossible for a wheelchair user to gain access through the bus shelter to the foot of the ramp.”
Mr Brett revealed that after the meeting, council engineers gave reassurances that steps would be taken to address issues raised.
He concluded: “I am very pleased that this has been done and access to the station will now be easier for wheelchair users and also families with children’s buggies.
“The new car park also includes additional disabled parking spaces located close to the station access ramp.
“I would like to thank everybody who has helped bring about this most satisfactory outcome.”
