World final places up for rabs

-

Gordon Moodie, of Windygates, and Carnoustie’s Dennis ‘The Menace’ Middler have an important date with their BriSCA formula II cars when they lineup tomorrow for the World Championship semifinals at Cowdenbeath Racewall.

It’s crunch time for the 56 formula II drivers who have secured a grid place for the semi-finals after having participated in a series of qualifying rounds.

The top 56 points scorers now have to fight it out over 25 laps where the top 10 finishers in each semi-final will head to King’s Lynn next month where one lucky driver will be crowned world champion.

There were six Scots on the grids but Airth’s Chris Burgoyne has withdrawn after suffering a back injury.

The first semi-final features Liam Bentham (Ormskirk) and David Polley (Manea) sharing the front row but the danger to them will probably come from row three where in-form British champion Craig Wallace (Tranent) and ex-World champion Kelvyn Marshall (Macclesfield) start.

Middler will start from the outside of row eight.

Heat two pairs ex-world champion and present National Points champion Moodie alongside Adam Rubery (Brierley Hill) on the front row with teen sensation Euan Millar (Lockerbie) and Luke Wrench (Crewe) on row two.

The semi-finalists have a practice session tomorrow between 2.30-3.30pm with the meeting starting at 5pm.

Backing the formula IIs tomorrow night are the two litre National saloons and ORCi stock rods, while on Sunday the saloons, minis, prostock basics and micro2 drivers are in action from 1pm.

The saloons are racing for the Joan Purdie Memorial and the minis for the Turner Trophy.
